If you wish to bring your pet to us then please telephone or email if it is easier for you. We just need to arrange an appointment, as we have other clients coming to us, but you can often come straight away. If you prefer then we can make a collection from your home or veterinary surgery.

Burial takes a lot more consideration than cremation as it can involve a long-term commitment if you are looking for a formal plot. It does not have to involve this as you may choose the option of a green burial with no maintenance or visiting rights beyond the initial one. That way you know your pet will have a permanent resting place at a cost similar to cremation without having an ongoing commitment . The choice is yours but we always like you to come and see the cemetery first to ensure it meets your ideas and requirements.

Everyone has their own ideas about the type of resting place they would like for their pet so it is important for everyone that you are sure that Chestnut Lodge is the right one for you.

We advise you to register with us well in advance so that you avoid that moment of distress when you lose your pet and may make arrangements that do not suit you.

Formal or Green Burial for Your Pet

A formal burial will normally use a coffin although that is your choice. It will be in our formal section of the Cemetery and plots must be marked with a plaque or headstone made from a permanent material. the cost of the plot markers can be from about £50 to, well, whatever you decide you would like. It can be a simple square granite tile or a marble or granite headstone, with or without kerbing or a variety of options. You may see our memorial brochure on the Pet Cemetery page.

A green burial will not use a coffin but your pet will be wrapped in a shawl or you may use your own bedding if you wish. The plot is marked by a small plot marker and a shrub planted on the grave.

For both types of burial you have full visiting rights for as long as you wish to continue with the Cemetery Maintenance Fee. The Cemetery is open every day for visiting and there is no limit to visits.

This is just a summary and all the details are on our main Pet Cemetery page.
